Photos from the Month
Spelling Tests:
We paired up with Ms. Caitlin's class to take (and give) our individualized spelling tests. I was very impressed with how well the students worked together and how much they improved their spelling over the week! Way to go!
Classroom Jobs:
Every Friday, we take the last 10 minutes of the day to clean our classroom so that it stays clean and organized! Each student has a job that they complete to help out!
Simon helps Andrew (our librarian) fix a book.
Oliver and Daniel (our journalists) write a blog entry.
New Traditions:
This week, a second grader left our school because she is moving to another country. We started a new tradition for when students move on: a best of luck handshake line!
Grammar and Spelling Sentences:
Every week we have new spelling words and a new grammar topic. Students practice by writing creative stories that feature both spelling words and the grammatical feature! They often turn out quite hilarious.
Malcolm and Ian work out some silly phrases.
Simon and Oliver brainstorm.
Daniel and Unai work on adding spelling words.
Adrienne and Bente highlight their nouns.
Andrew and Danielle brainstorm.
Flossy Flamingo: The Play
We will be performing our Flossy Flamingo play next Friday so we have been busy preparing! Today, students worked on creating their set: a backdrop that features their habitat.
Ian and Danielle prepare the Tundra.
Bente and Daniel work on the Forest.
Adrienne, Andrew, and Oliver paint the Wetlands.
Umubyeyi Planning Groups
In the spring, we will be going to the local school, Umubyeyi to play games and teach lessons to the little kids. Over the course of the year, the students will plan ways to raise money for Umubyeyi (for food, toys, etc.) We met with Ms. Caitlin and Mr. Jim's classes to hear about the school and to plan for the year. The groups had some very creative ideas! We may have a pet show, bake sale, and restaurant night in the future!
